Hi folks.
Which wormers do you use? I've had a hell of a time with raven as she seems to have allergic reactions to most wormers. I had a problem with wicket when he was a pup and had to change his to drontal, but he's fine on that now. Raven takes a wormer once then the next time she vomits rings round herself. The vet says she must have a very sensitive system and she must be fussy with food - I told them that she eats absolutely anything and nothing ever upsets her system except the wormer!.

all my pooches get the drontal wormers, and are fine with it (touch wood, so far) they sometimes get a wee bit of the runs  (well its kind of in between if you get my meaning) the next day but then are fine again xx

Ours have Milbemax from the vet, doesn't seem to cause any problems other than the usual trying to get them to eat it! xxx
I use Panacur for my three and have never had any probs at all in any way. This one is a suspension as I struggle to get the tabs down Honey's throat - its like world war 3 but then again, she splatters the liquid out everywhere and I often think 'has she had the right dosage' - very trial and error but at least Lexi and Bruce are easy to administer to xxx

I'll can't remember the names of the different wormers I've used on raven. The ones I can remember are:
Panacur liquid - she was fine with it til she hit about 3 months then she was sick (but only about 5 times ish)
Panacur biscuit thing - made her quite sick. She vomited the biscuit back up within about 2 hours as soon as it was out, she was fine again.
Drontal - Made her seriously ill. She was sick about 40 times and was on a "if she's sick one more time she'll need to stay in at the vets" warning. Dehydrated her because of the sickness.
There was a different one as well but i can't remeber the name of it.
Wicket gets his drontal every three months and he's fine. OK, I need to fight with him to get him to take it, but once he gives in it's fine.

:D Thats really good then Pauline. I tried this with Honey and it was a no go situation so I had to break it all up and mix it with Pate and even then she left some of it ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) Can't win - she's a little beggar when it comes to administering this ;) ;) ;) ;)

I use Drontal for Coco. The vet told me that I need only deworm her once a year. When I last gave her Drontal in May, my it was so hard getting hard to swallow it. I had crushed the Drontal into powder (without Coco seeing me do it) and mixed it with her favorite meat treats, and gave it to her in her bowl. She normally would not refuse, but she only took the first little mouthful very hesitantly and didn't want to continue. I had to feed her with a spoon to finish up the rest of the mixture, and my it took ages~! Thank goodness it's only once a year. I know people generally deworm once every 3 months, or if your dog doesn't socialize that much, we could do it once every 6 months.
I use Heartgard plus for heartworm prevention :)

Drontal gets rid of the intestinal worms, but Heartgard Plus gives protection against heartworms. The vets here prescribe Heartgard Plus quite often since it's summer here all year long and we always have mosquitoes. Better be safe than sorry !!
I gave Coco her first Heartgard Plus last month. It is soft and chewy and smells meaty; indeed it is made of beef :)
See info below on Heatgard plus from the official Merial website

Why Does My Dog Need
HEARTGARD® Plus (ivermectin/pyrantel)
Protection against Heartworms, and Treats and Controls Roundworms and Hookworms
Heartworms are transmitted to dogs and puppies by mosquitos. Without the protection of a heartworm preventive, your pet could get heartworm disease – a potentially deadly illness. Once a dog is infected with heartworms, treatment can be difficult and expensive.
In addition to heartworms, your puppy or dog is also at risk for hookworms and roundworms; intestinal parasites that can cause dangerous diseases in pets and people. That's why it is important to provide your dog or puppy with a monthly deworming. When used as directed, HEARTGARD Plus is highly effective in preventing heartworm disease in dogs and puppies as young as 6 weeks old. HEARTGARD Plus also treats and controls hookworms and roundworms – making it the only product that comes in a Real-Beef Chewable that prevents heartworm disease and provides broad control against other parasites that can threaten your pet, as well.
HEARTGARD is well tolerated. All dogs should be tested for heartworm infection before starting a preventive program. Following the use of HEARTGARD, digestive and neurological side effects have rarely been reported. For more information, contact your veterinarian or click on Product Information below.
